A 1904 version of the classic children's story of Christmas Eve, The Night Before Christmas, has been republished in its original entirety by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The original cloth book, donated by Ruth Hoffman, was published by Saalfield Publishing Company of New York, NY. The original 1904 book was printed on muslin by a photographic process known as chromolithography. The chromolithography process produced the artist's illustration directly onto a zinc plate, with oil colors then being applied to the plate. From 1899 to 1976 Saalfield was one of the leading publishers of richly colored children's books. |
The republished book, The Night Before Christmas, can be purchased for $12.95 plus tax and shipping at the North Dakota Heritage Center Museum Store in Bismarck, North Dakota. For information or to order, contact Rhonda Brown at 701-328-2822 or email at rhbrown@state.nd.us.
You can order on-line at: http://www.state.nd.us/hist/museumStore/products.asp?cat=3.
